The MX5 Roadster

The MX5 Roadster was first launched in 1989. The concept was to create an affordable, no compromise, modern sports car that was exceptional fun to drive yet cheap to maintain.
With this design brief in mind Mazda created probably the most successful modern sports car in the world. Outstanding good looks and the Japanese reputation for reliability is what make the MX5 such a modern day success story.
The MX5 has a 1.6 litre, 4 cylinder, 16 valve, fuel injected engine delivering 118BHP. With an all up weight of just 950kg and a 0-60mph around the 9 second mark the car delivers excellent performance yet it is affordable to the public and acceptable to the insurance companies.
